once in grade 6 I saw a ‘pottery making club’ in a ditch on the schoolyard- I assume at some point someone realized there was actually good quality clay in the ditch and when I walked up there were about a dozen 12 year olds sitting around the few girls who had brought their water bottles out to mix the clay, and a designated spot to put the finished bowls and tablets, and people going off and collecting sticks to make designs with and i really think that’s the natural state of the human race

people who are non-confrontational to the point where you can’t address any issue with them because they will immediately ignore the actual conversation and just “give up” in the name of appeasement so nothing actually gets fixed are the actual bane of my existence. yes, there’s so many reasons why someone’s go-to response is automatic appeasement without discussion but as an adult you have a responsibility to be able to communicate and problem solve effectively in your relationships, it can’t always be on the other person to ignore issues for the sake of not putting you through anything that vaguely resembles a confrontation.
lol anyways since y’all were already pissed abt this one i do wanna add that if you treat your friend like they’re being unnecessarily “aggressive” or “sensitive” for bringing up a genuine issue they’ve had and go out of your way to avoid addressing it OR you have an issue w something a friend did and instead of bringing it up like an adult, you just hide it and get frustrated/passive aggressive without actually having a conversation: you’re a shitty friend and i hope they stop talking to you
this is going around again for the holidays and i just wanna make it clear: a “fawn” response is not a neutral response. it can be just as harmful and manipulative as anything else. every adult has the personal responsibility to find appropriate means to communicate with the people you have relationships with. while, again, there are plenty of reasons beyond one’s control that could cause a default fawn response, that’s an explanation, not an excuse. you still need to find ways to address issues with other people and respond appropriately when others address issues with you.
